so, baby, what's your type?

It's been a while, but every now and again, I like to do a post on the Jung/Meyers-Briggs/Keirsey personality test. There are many online versions, but it's all the same thing. It's one of those things I've been fascinated by since I was a kid. I don't know why. It's always interesting to see how people you know, both online and in real life, score on the test. There is no right or wrong answer, but it's interesting to see how we interact with one another, and I really do think it helps us to understand ourselves and others a little bit better. I'll do a post on this every other year or so, mostly because other people out in Blog Land might not have gotten the chance to do it, or... you might know your type already, and want to loudly proclaim it.

You can take the test:

I am an
ENFP...
ENFPs are initiators of change who are keenly perceptive of possibilities, and who energize and stimulate through their contagious enthusiasm. They prefer the start-up phase of a project or relationship, and are tireless in the pursuit of new-found interests. ENFPs are able to anticipate the needs of others and to offer them needed help and appreciation. They bring zest, joy, liveliness, and fun to all aspects of their lives. They are at their best in situations that are fluid and changing, and that allow them to express their creativity and use their charisma.

Yikes!
It's like they're peering into my little brain, clearing out the weasels, and getting to the good shit. Yeah-boy!!!!

So, my friends... like... what's your type? If you know yours, is it pretty accurate? Celebrate in the comments, and pass the meme on!

I married an infp, and it's pretty interesting how different we are, yet how well we work together.

I get these tests, but I am always suspicious that they're intrinsically deterministic; in the sense that you have to arrive at a preconceived destination. There is no "don't care" option, or even better an option for 'yes' 'no and 'I don't accept the premise of the question.

I am suspicious because it seeks to categorise and create sets which isn't much the case in human life. It is a problem then because very often I find myself not really agreeing with either option but being forced to choose one anyway which is evidently going to push me into one of the sets rather arbitrarily.

It is like (for example) the question that "you trust reason rather than feelings", because I cannot say with confidence that I do or that I don't, I guess I use a synthesis of the two, but since I must choose one over the other I am determined to be of a particular typology. At least half the questions I found to be highly ambiguous in this way.

Or the question "you often do jobs in a hurry" which is all very well, but if I am in a hurry, I do jobs in a hurry, if I am not, I don't, so which do I choose. I cannot imagine that when the majority of the questions are of this deterministic type then my result cannot be particularly reliable.

Or, how about "You frequently and easily express your feelings and emotions", I can easily express them, but I don't do it frequently, so which is it?

That said, I am an INFP apparently, which I am sure means that I'm an annoying git :)

I like the "short & sweet" generality of it. It doesn't encompass the entirety of the spectrum, but it's a nice little snack.

And I LOOOOOVE snacks! Yay!

Pay me no mind. Too much cold medicine.

There is actually quite wide criticism of Meyer-Briggs.

Our employer organized such tests for us. I answered B on all 76 questions. I wonder what they are thinking of me...
