It was January 21, 2001 at the Hot97 radio station on Funkmaster Flex's show that a hip-hop dynasty came into being. It was on that night that Jay-Z's Rocafella Crew consisting of himself, Memphis Bleek, Beanie Siegel and his State Property crew rolled up and went on a freestylin' rampage. It was this defining moment where Rocafella firmly implanted themselves in hip-hop history as one of the most important crews of our generation.

Cipha Sounds recently dug into his vaults and started posting youtubes from that historic moment on his website, www.dontgetgassed.com and there is more to come. Here are the first two...

The Latest Anti-Christ

(Originally posted at; The Big World of Li'l Treva, The Latest Anti-Christ)

Of all the stupid rumors about Barak Obama that have circulated this country (i.e., He's a Muslem trying to turn America into a Muslem ruled state. He's Arab. He's Egyptian. He's going to raise common people's taxes.), I think the one alleging him to be The Anti-Christ is the most amusing of all. (However, the claims of him being Muslem, Arab and Egyptian were funny.) This, as well as, the others, indicate desperation on the part of people that make up and spread these fabrications. Such rumors are intended for gullible and ignorant members of America's voting population, the sort that believe rumors which are loosely based in scripture from the Christian bible. (Most often from the King James Version.)

Obama is not the first person accused of being The Anti-Christ. I recall when Bill Clinton was pinned with this label during the 2004 election season.

Was Al Gore, John Kerry, or any other Democratic presidential candidate for the 2000 and 2004 elections branded as The Anti-Christ during those election years? If not, I might know why.

George W. Bush (most likely with the aid of Karl Rove) knew how to work the fundamentalist "Christians" without relying on the age-old "anti-Christ" scare tactic to attract these people's money and other support. Bush used wedge issues like abortion, gay rights, including the controversy over gay marriage, to lure religious groups, particularly under the Christian banner, to support each of his presidential campaigns. He wore religion on his sleeve, passing himself off as the kind of guy that prays for divine guidance and frequently called Billy Graham for advice since he was a kid. Bush used his claims to faith in God and Jesus to attract mass support from so-called "Christian conservatives" for anything in his regime's agenda. He and his regime added the religious based manipulations to other things, like physical fear of terrorist attacks, and patriotic (or rather, nationalistic) fervor to convince scores of Americans to readily sacrifice themselves, or their loved ones (including their own adult children). That was enough for him to rally political support from the so-called Christian conservatives.

If anybody was being called The Anti-Christ during Bush's first term, it was Osama bin Laden. That didn't last long. Once Bush, Cheney, Rove, and their pals decided that bin Laden was no longer an important tool (except when they needed the recycled and other suspicious "videos", reportedly of Osama bin Laden for diversionary causes), Saddam Hussein became The Anti-Christ.

When I was a kid, right-wing extremists tried to convince young Christians and Christian parents to help ban rock-n-roll by implicating certain rock and rollers as The Anti-Christ. Did you know, Elvis Presley was The Anti- Christ? He was rumored to mesmerize women and teen girls, not just with his good looks and songs, but also with his gyrating pelvis.

In the 60's and 70's, John Lennon (Beatles) and Mick Jagger (Rolling Stones) were each accused of being The Anti-Christ. Little wonder with Lennon's social and political views, such as, his opposition to war, and Jagger's reportedly acid-trip inspired song, Sympathy for the Devil.

Ozzie Osborn, who openly described himself as a Satanist (before the luggage mix-up incident which reportedly changed his religion), was called The Anti-Christ. That was when right-wing extremists with a socio-political agenda set about their task of convincing concerned parents that Satanic cults were cropping up all over the country in every suburban and rural community, and every small town with a small-minded population. (Like the people of West Memphis, Tn.)

More believable: the John Birch Society warned that The Anti-Christ would rise among the political and geographic rulers of so-called communist countries (where socialism and bans on free enterprise were used as a tool for mass control). What made this more easily believed was that religious discussions, literature, practice, and institutions were banned by the governments of the U.S.S.R., the Republic of China, and Castro's Cuba. As I recall, such bans also existed in East Germany before the Berlin Wall was breached and destroyed.

Why Barak Obama? What did he do to inspire some covert group of religious propaganda to elect him as the latest accused anti-Christ?

Obama is probably the latest alleged anti-Christ for the same reason why President Bill Clinton was so accused. Talk of Clinton being The Anti-Christ seemed to circulate wildly around the time of the 1996 major US election season. His political enemies were calling him names like Slick Willie and Teflon Bill. No matter what, they couldn't seem to ruin his popularity among more than half of the US voting population. They had plenty of help from the so-called liberal media, which they condemned for not being severe enough on Clinton's image. Clinton was too resilient, and obviously more clever than his political enemies, until he testified in his own defense to the Grand Jury.

I've heard frequent remarks about Barak Obama's "Teflon-like" image. He's handling himself and his campaign quite well. He's consistently leading in polls which are intended to compare his popularity among US voters, to John Mc Cain's. In recent weeks, John Mc Cain's and Sarah Palin's popularity has waned, now that the newness surroundin Palin is wearing off, along with her "folksy" talk. Additionally, Mc Cain appears to attract a lot of supporters that strike many of us as being ripe candidates for psychiatric evaluation. They've been seen and heard on TV! One (crazy lady with messed up hair) was parodied on the prime time Thursday night SNL specials. This is causing desperation among partisan Republicans, especially since Bush's popularity dwindled lower than any US president's, even among the most mentally whacked, right-wing religious fanatics that had once held Bush as equal to Jesus.

One other thing: Obama is the son of a black man and he has a Muslem-sounding name, according to some hicks in Wood County, Texas. Since high-profile Republicans don't feel comfortable with openly stating that they don't want any president with anything, except an all Caucasian family history, they must find another reason to discourage more voters (namely Christians) that aren't hung-up on ethnic backgrounds and names.

It is pointless to attempt to reason with the kind of Americans that really believe all this talk of Obama being The Anti-Christ. If you've gotten to know any of these people very well, then you know that they are inclined to learn a lot of life lessons the hard way, regardless of how obviously foolish their choices tend to be. They forsake logic and truth for twisted perspectives and lies that sound "right" to them, because those lies and twisted perspectives reflect what these people want to be true. Many of them never really learn from the consequences caused by their poor choices, no matter how many rounds of cause-and-ill-effects they experience.

My way to handle this is to laugh and shake my head. If I say anything, it's, "So, this is the latest so-called anti-Christ. I wonder, who will be the next one."

Pres. - Elect Obama's Suggestion Box

I must share something I found at the Obama campaign group. It is a link to a site where we can access news and other information and offer suggestions to our next president, with a "suggestion box" where we're encouraged to share our ideas and experiences to further enable him to serve our country.

That site is change.gov.

Somebody at vox.com posted the link at the Obama group over there. I'm just passing the link on just in case somebody didn't know about it and considers it useful. I hope, you use it for its intended purpose and pass it on to others. Please encourage them to do the same.

It's funny. The same people that I used to think I could never let use me without an emotional struggle, are the most comforting people to use now.

I don't know if I'm just so tired my brain has shut off, but I just shooed my FB out the door with a peck and thought nothing of it.

I offered my bed, I got cancelled on. Laughed (what!? I LAUGHED! And here I was in love and losing it over this person a month or so ago) it was his loss and I'd fill his spot with the next on the list. I flat out giggled that I had a backup, and explained shortly before we got off the phone that it was no problem. I was getting laid tonight.

It stopped him for a second. He said it better be someone I knew, that I better "strap it up". It was ironic that mister bareback himself was counseling me on condom use... but oddly, I think it bothered him a little I was so far from rattled. I laughed an evil laugh and let him hang up on me in a mad rush.

I pondered the idea of saddness for a moment, then realized that I was tired anyway. I just wanted an easy fuck before bed and B. on a worknight is as easy at it gets. He works 4 miles from my place, and has the outdoor key.

I hop in the shower, leave the door unlocked -- he appears, we get off, smoke a cigarette and say goodnight.

The whole process takes half an hour.

It's odd when you compare, though. He tries to make more small talk than I do. He looks back oddly as he walks out the door -- pecking me more than once goodbye. I don't stand up anymore. I stay seated and wave him off.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he gives a fuck -- but I feel like the change in me is obvious. I don't whine, I don't say I miss him -- I don't ask about his life or work. I answer his questions and babble... but I never turn it around. I used to come to the door, I used to kiss him.

I used to love to kiss him. And thinking about his lips and the passion I now skip over... avoiding his mouth if I can... is the only thing that ever rips my heart a bit.

I let him come in, I force him to get to business, and after I get mine I hurry up his and smile him away.

He's two booty cancellations away from no longer being on the list -- but I'll never say that. And if he quits his job, I will not make the commute. I will move on, and replace his spot with someone else.

It's so weird to look at someone you used to love, and find them so completely expendable. He's good because he's easy. Not the best lay (not anymore, used to be) but I only have to do what I'd do anyway... come home take a shower.

I used to hate the idea that this might happen. That we'd know eachother just to fade out again. Now, I slide through the musk of sex and peer lightly at my future, soon without him.

To be with him? No. Because if I were to love him, the fact that he's poor (yet always in cigarettes and other vices), 31 with no real career or motivation to unlock a potential higher than17 bucks an hour, about to be divorced, with a 2 year old he can't even support, living with his mother, and selfish to a fault... see all those things would matter. They wouldn't work. I loved loving him... I love who he was when he loved me... but it didn't work. It can't unless he changes... and you simply cannot change people. If he'd really loved me, he'd have done it himself.

Actually, the simple fact that he's got no money would fuck it even if only the empathy of hearing about it and wanting to help was the killer.

This way, 4 short miles are the only thing that matter.

And one day, the miles will multiply, and a month will pass without his number on my ID, and without the itch to dial the digits.

It used to be sad... to find a friend and lover turned into this. A sex toy whose batteries I never have to change... whose parts I never have to wash because once I use it...

I can simply throw it away.

WJP #100 - Why McCain Never Had A Chance

Posted by Sladewilson
3:05 AM, Nov. 6, 2008 .. Posted in Today's Entry .. 5 comments .. Link
Libertine has an excellent post with four great points. You should click the link and read the post. Really. Then come back here for my take.

Back so soon? No, that will never do. Go back and READ the post. Ingest it.

Ooookay. Now we can jump off (you better have read it. There might be a test later...)

I agree with Lib that during John McCain's concession speech the "Maverick" had returned. It was one of the greatest political speeches of our time and trust me, it will be recognized as such years from now. All you heard about John McCain being a war hero and a servant for his country is all true. And that is partly one of the reasons he lost.

1) The disappearance of "The Maverick": When John McCain lost in 2000, it did something to him. Karl Rove and Dick Cheney used every disgusting tactic in the book and shredded this decent war hero of every dream he had. Eight years later, McCain believed those tactics is what wins elections. He never realized that the same reviled tactics that were used against him were now recognized for the heinous acts they were. And he severely underestimated the discipline of the man he was running against. The Maverick had disappeared and in his place was... George W. Bush.

2) Govenor Sarah Palin: While I understand his need to embrace the conservative base who long believed he abandoned them, he obviously didn't do his homework. The baggage Palin bought with her (and I'm not referring to her family - I'm referring to her politics and her own shady tactics) clearly didn't help. Plus her obvious inexperience was laid bare by none other than one of the softest interviewers in the business - Katie Couric. That's not a knock on Katie, it's just a fact. She has a soft way of getting to a point and one that anyone who has done their background work can clearly work with and look good doing it. Plus, let's be honest - these weren't Mike Wallace 60 Minute Pitbull questions. "What magazines do you read?" She couldn't answer that. Plus, and let's really be honest, Tina Fey absolutely buried her, dirt and all. Even laid a wreath on her at the end. Couple all of that with McCain's age and health issues and her being that close to the presidency was a dead issue that even those in the center spoke out on and those were the ones that McCain believed he could count on. On a side note - clearly the woman is insane and she likes the spotlight and has an agenda that will extend her alotted 15 minutes of fame. The conservative base of Hollywood is actually thinking she can take on Oprah. Don't believe the hype, Sarah. Go back to shooting moose, it's safer than Hollywood.

3) Poor management and contradictions: McCain's team was horrible. Almost every move they had him make was to pander to a base that did not embrace him. And really - "Joe The Plumber"? Where did he even think this was his meal ticket to the White House? Flashes of the old Maverick would emerge as in the last debate and when on the tour, people would make sick and horrible remarks about Obama and he would have to correct them. He had Fox News and Rush Limbaugh attacking him and then half-heartidly embracing him which sent conflicting messages throughout the core base. He wanted his old friend Joe Libermann to be his running mate and it was obvious how upset he was that he was told there would be a fight on the convention floor if he made that choice. He had barely any allies and was surrounded by vultures that he invited to his party. The man looked like he was drowning.

4) Barack Obama: I know some will argue but in many ways, it was race that also played a part. While McCain obviously could care less, it was clear his team believed that because he was running against an untested, young African-American male would be a simple task. Again, they didn't do their homework but what is worse is that they didn't believe their own eyes. Here was a man that clearly was not going to be baited into the age old "Angry Black Man" routine, who was vastly intelligent and was using the tools of the day. Obama used his community organizing skills and ran a campaign that embraced technology, ground work and couple that with his intelligence and fortitude showed a man that could not only lead this country but actually made people believe they counted. His campaign was inclusive to all. He would even give his opponents their just due when he believed they were in the right. He never backed down from telling the absolute truth and was embraced for it. Eight years ago, that John McCain would looked at that young man and actually acknowledge his sense of pride of running against him. Instead, he was made to pander to those who couldn't understand for the life of them what they were witnessing. And by the time McCain tried to take control of his own campaign, it was far too late.

WJP #099 - History

Senator Barack Obama of Illinois will be the 44th President of the United States of America, to be sworn in on January 20th, 2009. He is the first African-American to be voted in as President of the United States.

I'll tell you all what was, up until now, a secret:

I never thought I'd write those words. I never thought I'd see this day. I believed a woman would become President before a black man. And I still believe I will live to see a woman president. I truly believed that the next generation might live to see a black man become president, but my generation would not.

For the first time since my wife accepted my proposal for marriage, I cried tears of joy.

The first time I saw that picture by Alex Ross, I laughed and thought, "Well, at least the brother is legit." Still, while I rooted for him and believed his message, I had doubt coupled with fear.

They might try to kill him. We have some truly sick people in the world and they have access to guns. He could lose to Senator McCain, and while that I could somewhat accept, Govenor Palin as VP was just not acceptable. The more she spoke, the more she terrified me. I could not see her that close to the presidency. I prayed for the man. I actually stumped for the man. I haven't stumped for a candidate since President Bill Clinton.

My wife and I went to vote at 5:30AM. And there was still a line. We got in and out relatively quickly and then I wouldn't watch anything about the election until around 8PM. And I saw some of the numbers and got a little scared but I remembered four years ago and watched how fast it turned.

Then he won Ohio. Say what?

Then he won Pennsylvania.

And as fast as that, it was a wrap. Barack Obama had become the first African-American ever elected President.

And the tears came.

I woke up my wife and we watched Senator McCain's heartfelt concession speech. It was almost like the maverick had returned for a brief moment. Then we watched history - President-Elect Barack Obama's victory speech. And the tears almost came again for me while they flowed freely from my wife.

I'm not one to think that this will all together solve racism. But, I now know there is hope. For a brighter future and a brighter day. I thought about my parents and family members who have passed on. I thought about those who have marched and those who have died for the right to vote.

I realized it will be the first time since President John F. Kennedy that a family complete with small children will live in the White House. I realized so many changes are coming at a rapid pace. I watched people around the world celebrate this victory and knew how much one man had just changed the world.

His speech was humble and while not solemn, it was gracious to a nation that he will have to rely on to help him solve many of our problems. They will not go away overnight. And he will be tested on all fronts.

For one night though - all was right in the world.

Congratulations to our new first family - The Obamas.

I thought that efx2blogs was down, according to a source (community insider) that told me all-too familiar horror stories of instability and downtime. I finally got up the courage to come see for myself. After arriving, I was confronted with another familiar, but foreboding sight: That of SPAM droppings.

Well, I'm glad to see that efx2blogs hasn't completely vanished. Let's hope, there will be no need to add the word "yet" to the previous statement.

I started an account with vox:
http://liltreva.vox.com/ I still have my account at blogspot/blogger, but that one is in its usual mostly neglected state. I never felt comfy there. I made myself right at home at vox.com where I quickly found a lot of other efx2-ers and former modblog-ers over there.

My vox posts won't be so heavily based on political and social stuff as my blogs have been since 2003.

I've been working on the screenplay, techie scripts, storyboards and other fun stuff that goes into the production of a movie. It's MINE, but I'll be sharing the creative glory with actors and whatnot. It's still MINE!

Silliness aside, it's to be a comedy. I'm serious!

I can do comedy. Sort of. Just ask my closest friends. They'll tell ya. They'd better! They all owe me a few favors.

On the political side...

Don't you just lllllove those money-lending executives that get bailed out by tax payers, compliments of Congress and the Bush regime, then reap rewards for their rotten deeds in the form of bonus payoffs?

went to see a club night over in Bethnal Green called "Dollhouse Days Are Over..." i wasn't quite sure what to expect, i just knew a band i liked (Hooligan Night) were playing a set...........

There were a couple of other acts on the bill i had no preconceptions of (brief reviews follow of each). The club night itself promised "A haven for Punk Rock Princes, Electro Ballroom Bitches, Neon Clad New Ravers, Riot Grrrls and Grimey types." Music policy was new stuff i hadn't heard before along rock/indie lines through to CSS and the Cure (which was nice)

Fab and just a bit sleezy (which we like......), not got much of a yardstick for them for influences - a bit electro, a lot rock, a bit bluesy - uber cool :)
We like them very much, their myspace tracks don't have the energy of the live perfomances (which are really fab).
Great sound, great songs, great live 8/10

Somethings must be shared with the world.

David Letterman Ethers John McCain:

If you haven't heard the story yet, here goes: Senator McCain was booked for Letterman and canceled at the last minute stating he had to catch a plane to DC to help out with the financial crisis. Then Letterman finds out that McCain is across the building doing an interview with Katie Couric. Dave then goes absolutely ballistic on McCain's lying ass. This is classic.

Even more classic?

Watch Govenor Palin totally show her "experience" with Katie. Katie, to her credit, never let the Govenor off the hook...

Part One:

Part Two:

Talk about an "L"... Katie and Dave straight bodied them.

Nobody in the world got swagga like Slade, swagga like Slade, swagga like Slade....

Hee hee hee....

Okay, so I haven't been personal blogging for awhile.

Been a tad busy over at the "other" site putting in work. BTW - if you want to find all your reviews and stuff - The War Journal is the place to find them from now on.

As for the personal stuff, here or Vox will do.

I just haven't had time. Plus my new addiction has really got me open.

Twitter.

Oh, how I love thee, Twitter! It's easy, fun, easy, quick, easy, you get the idea...

So, I'm on Twitter if anyone needs to hit me up. I'm open...

As for The Universe Is Calling - give me a chance to re-charge and I'm on it. And now for some random shit:

I've rediscovered my love for hip-hop. Thanks to the following blogs/websites:

Shout out to Necole Bitchie and Fresh from Crunk + Disorderly, plus Media Takeout and Bossip for keeping me in the loop on what's going on in the world.

Shout out to TVGuide Online and Entertainent Weekly for keeping up to date with my television addiction.

Shout out to JJ Abrams for creating the now best show on television - Fringe. Yeah, I saw Heroes on Monday and while it was good, I wasn't knocked out like I should've been. Fringe is kicking it's ass. That is some truly freaky shit...

Shout out to Midtown Comics for delivering my comics and keeping my reading diet full...

Shout out to Alicia Keys and Lauren London for just being you.

Okay, I'm done wit' that shit.
